Health and Physical Education at Clarinda Primary School

Aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0

At Clarinda Primary School, our Health and Physical Education (HPE) program supports the development of the whole child—physically, socially, and emotionally. We aim to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead healthy, active, and respectful lives.

Health Education

The Health strand supports students to:

  • Understand their own identity, emotions, and relationships

  • Develop personal and social skills to manage change, conflict, and peer pressure

  • Make safe and informed choices about their health and wellbeing

  • Explore respectful relationships and protective behaviours

  • Build awareness around nutrition, mental health, and cyber safety

We explicitly teach topics such as:

  • Wellbeing and resilience

  • Friendship and teamwork

  • Puberty education (Years 5–6)

  • Digital safety and media influences

Physical Education

The Physical Education strand helps students to:

  • Develop movement skills, coordination, and fitness

  • Understand the importance of regular physical activity

  • Work cooperatively in teams and demonstrate good sportsmanship

  • Apply strategies in games and develop leadership skills

Our program includes:

  • Weekly PE classes for all year levels

  • Fundamental movement skills (Prep–Year 2)

  • Minor and major games (Years 3–6)

  • Interschool sport and whole-school athletics

  • Fitness and skill-based circuits

  • Opportunities for student leadership through House Sports and team roles

We are committed to delivering a safe, inclusive, and engaging HPE program that reflects the needs of our diverse school community. Our approach ensures students build lifelong habits that support a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
